Muscular Power by Don Athaldo

Don Athaldo (born 1894, Walter Joseph Lyons) was just one of many athletes of his day who took advantage of mail order marketing. Athaldo’s system, like many others, bore his name: The Athalding System.

This is a rare advertising booklet used to promote the course.

Athaldo’s message:
He who professes to teach his fellow-man should first show the results of his methods on his own person.
My own records and performances throughout the world show the extent of my knowledge, and my pupil’s performances prove that I can successfully transmit that knowledge.
According to historian David Chapman, Athaldo boasted about contests and medals he never won, and pretty much lifted Charles Atlas’ system, Dynamic Tension and renamed it as his own. He also claimed his course could cure everything from cancer to bad breath.
